The United States war on drugs is set for an early retirement in 2033 – at the age of 62.

It officially began on June 17, 1971, when President Richard Nixon declared drug abuse to be “public enemy number one” during a press conference and special message to Congress. As of today, June 1, 2026, this initiative has been ongoing for more than five decades, making it the nation’s longest war.

Dollars and Cents:

Since its inception in 1971, the U.S. Congress has authorized an estimated $1 trillion in cumulative funding for the War on Drugs.

Nixon got us started with a budget of $100 Million.

By 2023, the annual federal drug war budget reached $39 billion, with recent fiscal year requests under the Biden administration totaling approximately $44.5 billion for 2025.

Meet public enemy number one:

The federal government has completely rejected the will of the people with regards to marijuana usage because they do not want to release their strangle-hold on Black communities. Marijuana remains illegal simply as a form of law enforcement harassment. If Po-Po wants to take you to jail for being Black and 4 deep riding through their upscale neighborhoods -“I believe I detect the odor of marijuana – I am going to need everybody to step out of the vehicle and identify themselves”. A little boy from the back seat pokes his head up; “man. we are going to be late for church, again”.

Flash forward – today:

I did not mention the current activity in the Caribbean because it is already proving useless.

We are here because the federal government has been rejecting the will of the people – since 1971.

We all already know that the police are useless in the war on drugs. As soon as some drug dealer gives them their first free hit you just as well put a gun to their head and pull the trigger.

Arrogant White men think the solution is through force.

The most successful campaign against drugs in America is D.A.R.E.

The D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program has been a staple in American education facilities since 1983, reaching its peak presence in the 1990s when it was implemented in approximately 75% to 80% of U.S. school districts.

Care to guess who it was founded by? Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl Gates.

Every president since 1971 has had the pleasure of pissing into a strong wind. Collectively, they do not acknowledge their pant legs are wet. They just wear boots.

The First Ads (1931–1930s)

The initial advertising campaign was heavily focused on radio and print.

• Radio: The product debuted with a heavy radio advertising campaign. By 1932, Miles Laboratories sponsored the radio show Alka-Seltzer Comedy Star of Hollywood, followed by National Barn Dance in 1933.
• Print: Early newspaper and magazine ads (such as in The Saturday Evening Post) utilized a dry, factual approach. They promoted the product as a remedy for colds, indigestion, headaches, and hangovers, often competing directly with Bromo-Seltzer.
• Theme: These early ads did not yet feature the famous “Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz” jingle or the “Speedy” mascot (which arrived in 1951). Instead, they focused on the efficacy of the effervescent tablet formula (aspirin, sodium bicarbonate, and citric acid) discovered during a 1928 flu epidemic.

This is when the capitalists first began telling us that pills would make all of our problems go away. Not only Alka-Seltzer – the snake oil campaign is still lining store shelves today. Most of which could not cure a cramp.

My point is simple – Mom and Pop America started the demand that is now drug abuse, to help some rich person make more money.

Drugs that act as snake-oil to a wound, destroy our mind and our society.

The drug dealers are not the problem. The snake oil dealers are.
